Easy-to-Read Health Information

MedlinePlus: This site offers health information in both English and Spanish. The popular Interactive Tutorials, also available in English and Spanish, in addition to other easy-to-read materials listed in alphabetical order by topic.

Familydoctor.org: This site has easy-to-read health information on a wide variety of topics, with special sections for children, women, men and seniors. There is an extensive index, a dictionary of medical words and names of diseases, separate index of herbal and alternative remedies, and information in Spanish.

U.S. FDA Easy-to-Read Publications: This site has a collection of easy-to-read brochures in English and Spanish on a variety of health topics. You can print them or order free copies.

Kidshealth: This site is colorful and has lots of pictures. You can find information about health problems, and about how to stay healthy targeted towards parents, kids, and teens. The site contains Spanish articles.

Ask Me 3: Combats health literacy problems by giving patients three simple questions to ask their doctor each time they talk with him or her.

Health Information in Languages Other than English

Ethnomed: This site contains fact sheets and some sound and video on a variety of common health conditions in several languages. The site also has information about cultural beliefs and practices as they relate to health care.

The 24 Languages Project: Here you will find consumer health brochures in multiple languages. They provide access to over 200 health education brochures in 24 different languages.  Some have sound.

National Institute for Literacy—The Health and Literacy Special Collection: The Health & Literacy site is for teachers, students, health educators, or anyone interested in teaching health to people with limited literacy skills.
